Overview
Jenny, Leigh, and String Lakes are perfect places to take a family canoe trip: small enough to be protected from sudden storms, but large enough to provide a sense of adventure. Jackson Lake can be fun also, but requires a bit more caution. Afternoon thunderstorms and their associated winds can create dangerous conditions. Whitecaps over 4 feet high can form on short notice when storms roll over the Tetons on summer afternoons.

For those with experience, the Snake River - with its winding and twisting channels - holds lots of appeal. Of course, whitewater kayakers seek out the waters of the Snake River Canyon, where boaters can practice skills and have fun in rapids of varying degrees. No matter what river you choose to run, be sure to have your life jackets and wear them too! Currents can be tricky even on seemingly calm stretches.
