We’ve got a lot of friends on four legs here in Jackson Hole. And while we’d never play favorites, we’d be remiss not to recommend you spend some time with one creature at the heart of our cowboy culture: the horse.
We know not everyone comes from a background familiar with horses but if you’re here, you’re probably curious about stirring up some horse-related adventures. That’s why we’ve structured this story from baby steps to the casual dabbler, to the traveler who wants to be immersed in horse and ranch culture. What are you waiting for? Giddy up!
Jackson Hole Rodeo
For those who are a little horse shy, this family-friendly event means you don’t even have to touch a horse whilst being immersed our Western culture. The Jackson Hole Rodeo showcases a variety of daredevil events such as bareback bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing. It runs on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and is truly a must-see show for all ages. The show starts at 8 p.m.
The best part is this event has deep Jackson Hole roots stretching back to 1890. The Wilson family has kept the authentic Western tradition of rodeo alive across generations.
Traveler Tip: Read more about the history of our rodeo and save a few bucks by buying your tickets online at jhrodeo.com. Tickets are also available at the door.
Horse-drawn Stagecoach in the Square
This is a conveniently located, short ride in the heart of Town Square at the intersection of the Square and Cache for those who want a truly historic ride in a horse-drawn stagecoach. No saddle-mounting is required. The Jackson Hole Stagecoach has been circling Jackson’s town square for 50+ years and is over 90 years old. Everything is original, just like it was in the 1800s, for the stagecoach you’ll be riding in. It’s the only stagecoach in the United States you can ride on top of (perfect for kids) and is a big attraction for couples and families. The ride is 8 to 10 minutes in length and happens every day between Memorial and Labor Day, making it an easy activity to fit into a busy itinerary.
Bar-T Chuckwagon
For those looking for a longer ride, an adventure into the backcountry, a delicious meal and boot-stomping music, consider this 3-hour covered wagon ride that will whisk you away into beautiful Cache Creek Canyon. You’ll pull into camp for a home-cooked Dutch oven dinner before enjoying some live cowboy music.
The Bar T 5 Covered Wagon Cookout and Show offers a unique and unforgettable experience for your visit to Jackson Hole. Couples, families and individuals of all ages can enjoy this unforgettable evening of Western adventure and hospitality.

Trail Rides
Saddle up, pardner, and take the reins with gentle, “trail-tested” horses. Spring Creek Ranch frames most of its rides against the backdrop of the Tetons, while Mill Iron Ranch offers a wide variety of rides out into the mountain trails of the wilderness and fishing streams. North Fork Trail Rides will treat you to secluded, off-the-beaten-path trails with the same views the early explorers and mountain men spied as they explored the Jackson Hole Valley while trapping beaver. Willow Creek Horseback rides take place in the Bridger Teton National Forest. Rides last from 1 to 2 hours, 2-1/2 hour breakfast and lunch rides, half-day and full-day guided fishing rides. Splash through crystal clear streams and view the spectacular mountain scenery from Willow Creek.
Dude Ranches
For a longer and more immersive experience, trying “dudeing” at one of our authentic and historic guest ranches like Darwin Ranch (pictured above), or Flat Creek Ranch. All have been so beautifully and lovingly restored, you’ll feel like you’re a cowboy back in time.
Unique to Triangle X, guests enjoy the rare opportunity to ride within Grand Teton National Park. Depending on your choice, meals, fishing equipment, or an overnight camping experience may be included.
For those seeking a totally unique experience, the Teton Wagon Train run by Bar T-5 wranglers offers a 4-day, 3-night adventure in the middle of the Teton Range. Experience is not necessary! Live like the pioneers as you travel by covered wagon, ride horses, hike and canoe.
Traveler Tidbit: Dude ranches were the first tourist attractions in Jackson Hole long before Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Snow King Mountain skiing ever existed here.
